Jekiri's Two-Week Absence Opens Partizan's Centre Rotation — But Hayes Is Not an Automatic Fantasy Win

Partizan have ruled Tonye Jekiri out while he recovers from an adductor strain, with a reassessment due after two weeks. Kevarrius Hayes has the clearest immediate minutes case, but the Fenerbahçe box score also exposes the risk of assuming one injury produces one reliable fantasy replacement.

Partizan have lost a regular centre at an awkward point in their EuroLeague schedule. Tonye Jekiri sustained a muscle strain against Fenerbahçe on 15 October, and the club confirmed on 18 October that he will rest before being examined again after two weeks. That is a date for reassessment, not a confirmed return date. With a derby against Crvena Zvezda looming, the immediate fantasy question is not who inherits Jekiri's exact production; it is how Partizan distribute the frontcourt minutes they can no longer give him.

What is confirmed — and what is not

The injury occurred in Partizan's 74–65 defeat away to Fenerbahçe. Jekiri started but logged just 6:08, finishing with two points, one rebound, one assist and one block. The match box score establishes how little of that game he could play; it does not, by itself, tell us how the coaching staff will divide a full game without him. The club statement reported by Serbian public broadcaster RTS confirms the injury and the two-week review. It does not announce a replacement signing, a guaranteed starting centre or a firm comeback fixture.

Jekiri was not a token starter before the injury. Across his first six EuroLeague appearances this season, he had averaged 10.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in a little over 17 minutes, according to BasketNews' report on the club announcement. That is a meaningful piece of a frontcourt rotation, even if it is not a 30-minute workload. His absence removes a player Partizan had consistently used; it does not automatically transfer all those minutes or touches to one teammate.

Hayes has the first opportunity, not a blank cheque

Kevarrius Hayes is the obvious name for fantasy managers to examine. Against Fenerbahçe he played 21:34 and recorded 12 points, three rebounds, one steal and one block. He made five of ten field-goal attempts and both free throws, while committing four personal fouls. Those numbers are independently visible in the 15 October player box score. They show that Hayes was already capable of absorbing substantial centre minutes in the injury game. They do not prove he will now play 30 minutes every night.

There are two reasons to resist that leap. First, Hayes' 21:34 came in a match where Jekiri was forced off early, so some of the adjustment has already appeared in the sample. Second, the four fouls are a practical reminder that a larger role can still be capped by matchup and foul trouble. The positive case is straightforward: Partizan need credible interior minutes, and Hayes has recent evidence of handling them. The negative case is equally straightforward: his role may grow without becoming a dependable high-volume scoring or rebounding role.

Joffrey Lauvergne is the other immediate name to monitor. His 8:09 against Fenerbahçe yielded two points and four rebounds, but he also collected four fouls and three turnovers. That is not evidence of a settled replacement role. It is evidence of a player in the rotation who could be asked for more, provided he can stay on the court. Nikola Tanasković played 26:51 in the same game, scoring six points with four rebounds, but it would be a mistake to treat every one of his minutes as proof of a centre-specific promotion. Partizan can alter combinations as well as individual workloads.

The derby is the first meaningful test

Partizan's next EuroLeague fixture is the Belgrade derby against Crvena Zvezda on Thursday 22 October. Serbian coverage of the official announcement identifies that match as one Jekiri will miss. The subsequent trip through the EuroLeague schedule matters too: BasketNews identifies ASVEL and Žalgiris as further fixtures likely to fall inside his initial recovery period. Because the club has scheduled a review rather than a return, those later absences should remain expected rather than medically guaranteed until team information is updated.

The derby will give fantasy managers a better indication of whether Hayes starts, whether Lauvergne's stint expands, and how often Partizan use smaller or more mobile combinations. A single game still will not settle the entire rotation. Watch the first-half substitutions, the closing five, foul patterns and the split of rebounds and interior possessions. Those indicators are more useful than simply adding Jekiri's old minutes to Hayes' last box score.

Buckets fantasy verdict

Draft leagues: Hayes is a legitimate watchlist or conditional waiver target where he is available and eligible under the league's position rules. The case rests on near-term opportunity, not a claim that he is unrostered in every league. Lauvergne is a deeper-league contingency rather than a clear priority add on the evidence available. Do not cut a proven starter solely because Hayes may see a temporary bump.

Existing Hayes managers: Hold through the derby if your roster construction allows it, then judge the minutes and foul exposure. Jekiri managers: Plan for multiple missed games rather than waiting for an immediate return, but check your league's replacement rules and the club's next medical update before making a season-long decision. Partizan guards and wings: Avoid assuming a centre injury necessarily raises their fantasy usage; a different lineup can change the distribution of shots and rebounds in several directions.

As at 20 October 2026, Adelaide time, the reliable takeaway is narrower than the tempting headline: Jekiri is out pending a two-week reassessment; Hayes has the strongest demonstrated immediate centre workload; and Partizan have not yet supplied the evidence needed to call any replacement a locked-in fantasy winner. The derby is the next test, not the end of the analysis.
