Fournier Out 20 Days, Montero Doubtful: Olympiacos' EuroLeague Fantasy Backcourt Test

Olympiacos face a EuroLeague Round 7 backcourt squeeze: Evan Fournier is expected to miss around 20 days, while Jean Montero is doubtful against Fenerbahçe. The club's six-game minutes and creation numbers point to Codi Miller-McIntyre as the first fantasy watch, not an automatic one-for-one replacement.

Information checked: Wednesday 21 October 2026, 6:00 am Adelaide time (Tuesday 20 October in Greece). This is a pre-Round 7 availability assessment, not a confirmed match-day squad list.

Olympiacos have gone from an impressive double-round sweep in Spain to a genuine selection problem. Greek reports citing the club's medical update say Evan Fournier is expected to miss approximately 20 days with a large haematoma in his left shoulder and a sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee. Jean Montero is doubtful, rather than confirmed out, for Friday's EuroLeague game against Fenerbahçe after suffering a right ankle sprain and a ligament injury to his left knee. The distinctions matter: one absence has an approximate recovery window; the other is an unresolved selection call. Eurohoops reported both diagnoses on 20 October, with Greek outlet Gazzetta also reporting the medical update.

Why this is more than an ordinary injury note

Fournier and Montero are not interchangeable guards. Fournier has started three of Olympiacos' first six EuroLeague games and recorded 68 points, 16 assists and 146 minutes 22 seconds in total. Montero has come off the bench in all six, yet has produced 93 points, 27 assists and 143:49. Those are the club's own 2026–27 EuroLeague season statistics, not fantasy-point projections. Montero's 122 performance index rating (PIR) across six games, compared with Fournier's 45, also shows why treating the potential absence of the reserve as a minor footnote would be a mistake.

The averages help put the problem in scale. Fournier's totals work out to about 11.3 points and 24.4 minutes per appearance; Montero's to 15.5 points and 24.0 minutes. Those figures describe completed games only. They do not tell us how many minutes either would have played against Fenerbahçe, nor do they automatically transfer to one replacement. The fantasy question is which responsibilities — initiating possessions, attacking late-clock mismatches, spotting up and closing games — the available guards actually inherit.

The Spain trip provides the clearest context

On 14 October, Olympiacos beat Valencia 102–97 after overturning a 28-point deficit. In the club's own match report, Montero scored 26 and Fournier scored 23, all of Fournier's points coming in the second half. The same two players now face very different injury timelines. That match is relevant because it shows how much of the team's comeback offence came through their scoring rather than merely identifying two recognisable names on an injury list.

Olympiacos then beat Barcelona 105–100 after overtime on 16 October to improve to 5–1. The official Barcelona match report says Montero reported knee discomfort at half-time but continued to play. It also records Donta Hall leaving with an ankle sprain before continuing. Those details establish that Montero's physical issue did not begin as a surprise rumour days later. They do not establish that he will be fit for Friday; playing through discomfort once is not medical clearance for the next fixture.

The 18 October Greek league win over the Vikos Falcons adds another piece, but not a direct EuroLeague rotation forecast. Olympiacos won 79–68 without Fournier, Montero, Tyler Dorsey, Tyrique Jones or Bryant Dunston. Codi Miller-McIntyre supplied 17 points and eight assists, according to the club's match report. That is useful evidence that Miller-McIntyre can handle creation duties when colleagues sit. A domestic game with different availability and opposition cannot establish his Friday minutes, usage or fantasy return.

The first fantasy beneficiary to assess is Miller-McIntyre — with a catch

Miller-McIntyre has started all six EuroLeague games, but the official season table credits him with 34 points and 29 assists in 116:46. That is about 19.5 minutes and 4.8 assists per game. His existing role is more organisational than high-volume scoring. An injury-driven increase in ball-handling is plausible, but fantasy managers should not confuse more potential touches with more efficient scoring or a guaranteed minutes surge. The team may distribute possessions across several guards and forwards, and it has no obligation to replace every Fournier or Montero minute with a single player.

Cory Joseph is another player to monitor, not an automatic pickup. He has played five EuroLeague games for a combined 58:42, with 15 points and only two assists. Those official totals are too modest to justify assuming a sudden fantasy breakthrough. His case improves only if the final match squad, actual playing time and on-ball role all change. The same restraint applies to George Papas and other fringe backcourt options: a thinner roster can create opportunity without creating a trustworthy fantasy starter.

Tyler Dorsey is the complicating variable. The club's statistics show 63 points in five EuroLeague appearances, while contemporary reporting says he missed Barcelona following comments on social media. His availability and role for Fenerbahçe should be checked separately; a disciplinary or selection question is not a confirmed injury, and the reported uncertainty does not license an invented return date. If Dorsey is named and plays a normal workload, that could change how the available shooting-guard possessions are allocated. If he is absent, the shortage becomes more acute. Neither outcome should be priced in as fact before the squad is confirmed.

Do not manufacture a Vezenkov usage explosion

Sasha Vezenkov is an obvious established fantasy name, and his six-game official line — 108 points, 35 rebounds and 140 PIR — is strong. He also scored 25 in the overtime win at Barcelona. But a backcourt injury does not automatically mean a power forward gains every missing shot or assist. Opponents can change their coverage, and the coach can ask another guard to run the offence. Vezenkov remains a credible premium option on his own demonstrated production; this news is not evidence for an unsupported new projection.

The distinction between PIR and any individual fantasy platform's scoring rules also matters. The numbers quoted here are official basketball statistics, not verified Buckets league scores, ownership percentages, salary changes or breakevens. A fantasy manager using a customised league must apply the appropriate scoring settings before turning a real-world role observation into a roster move.

What to do before Olympiacos face Fenerbahçe

The club's 19 October fixture notice schedules Olympiacos against Fenerbahçe for Friday 23 October, 9:15 pm local Greek time, in EuroLeague Round 7. The priority checks are straightforward. First, confirm whether Montero is included in the final match squad and whether a minutes restriction is indicated. Second, establish Dorsey's selection status rather than treating last week's omission as permanent. Third, monitor the opening and closing backcourt combinations — especially Miller-McIntyre alongside Joseph or Dorsey — before declaring a new fantasy hierarchy.

Buckets call: Fournier is a clear short-term avoid or replace in formats where injured players occupy active slots, subject to your league's transaction rules. Montero is a wait for selection decision, not a confirmed scratch. Miller-McIntyre is the most defensible watchlist beneficiary because he already starts and creates for teammates; Joseph is a speculative depth option only. None of those calls assumes universal waiver availability, a guaranteed price movement or a projected fantasy score. The decisive evidence will be Friday's confirmed roster and actual minutes, not a neat one-for-one replacement theory.
