Nick Rakocevic Referred to NBL Game Review Panel: Round 4 Fantasy Impact

Nick Rakocevic has gone from one of the clearest Round 4 buys in NBL27 SuperCoach to one of the most important availability watches of the week.

The Adelaide 36ers big man has been referred to the NBL Game Review Panel following an incident involving New Zealand Breakers wing Mojave King during the third quarter of Sunday’s game. The NBL confirmed the referral on Monday and said further updates would follow once the incident is reviewed.

At this point, no sanction has been announced.

That distinction matters. Rakocevic is not currently confirmed out of Round 4, but coaches who were planning to bring him in should now wait for the GRP decision before locking the trade if their timing allows.

Why this matters so much for Round 4

Rakocevic has become one of the biggest early-season SuperCoach stories in the league.

He enters Round 4 with 197 SuperCoach points through five games at a 39.4 average, second overall for total points after three rounds. His role has expanded while Isaac Humphries remains sidelined, and he finished Round 3 with a career-best 29 points and 16 rebounds against New Zealand.

The NBL’s Round 3 SuperCoach recap has Rakocevic second overall for total points, behind only Parker Jackson-Cartwright.

That production is exactly why he sat at the top of our Round 4 Trade Targets.

The fixture made the case even stronger.

Adelaide plays Melbourne United on Wednesday, October 7 before travelling to face the Sydney Kings on Sunday, October 11, giving the 36ers a two-game Round 4.

If Rakocevic is available for both games, the original fantasy logic still holds: role, production and two-game volume all line up.

The new variable is simply whether the GRP changes that availability.

What happened?

The NBL says Rakocevic was referred to the Game Review Panel after making contact with King’s face with 7:26 remaining in the third quarter of Adelaide’s loss to New Zealand.

The league has not announced a grading, fine, suspension or other penalty.

That means there is no value in guessing what the panel will decide.

For fantasy coaches, the practical approach is to treat Rakocevic as pending, not out.

SuperCoach call: HOLD your trade decision, not the player

If you already own Rakocevic, this is not a reason to panic-sell him.

His basketball role has not changed. Humphries remains listed as TBC with a knee injury, and Rakocevic’s production has been excellent in the expanded frontcourt opportunity.

Adelaide’s own post-game report underlined how central he has become, with Rakocevic producing 29 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block against the Breakers.

The correct response is therefore different depending on your situation:

SituationBuckets call
You already own RakocevicHOLD and wait for the GRP outcome
You planned to trade him inWAIT if possible before confirming the move
A suspension is announcedReassess immediately based on length and trade timing
He is cleared / availableThe original BUY case remains intact

The biggest mistake would be acting as though a suspension has already happened.

It has not.

Draft fantasy impact

In Draft formats, the reaction should be even calmer.

Rakocevic has shown enough in the opening weeks to hold through a short-term availability issue unless your league has unusually shallow benches or a severe roster crunch.

The underlying role is the important part.

Adelaide is still without Humphries, Flynn Cameron is not expected back until Round 5, and the 36ers are already looking for extra support after slipping to 2-3.

Rakocevic has become too important to the rotation — and too productive in fantasy — to treat a pending disciplinary review like a change in long-term value.

What to watch next

The next meaningful update is the GRP verdict.

Until that arrives, the Round 4 equation is straightforward:

Do not assume Rakocevic is suspended. Do not ignore the risk either.

If he is available, he remains one of the strongest Round 4 plays because Adelaide has two games and his expanded role has already translated into elite early-season production.

If the panel rules him out, the trade board changes quickly and Adelaide’s already-thin frontcourt becomes an even bigger fantasy story.

We’ll update the Round 4 picture once the league confirms the outcome.
