Max Strus Out at Least Four Weeks With Partial Plantar Fascia Tear

Clippers wing Max Strus will be re-evaluated in four weeks after suffering a partial plantar fascia tear in his right foot. The timeline extends beyond LA’s season opener, but no return date has been set.

Max Strus faces at least four weeks out after suffering a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his right foot, leaving the Los Angeles Clippers without a wing option as they prepare for the regular season.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on 5 October that Strus will be re-evaluated in four weeks. That timetable extends beyond the Clippers’ 21 October opener against the Sacramento Kings. It is a significant availability setback — but not a confirmed four-week recovery or a scheduled return to action.

Injury cuts short Clippers debut

Strus suffered the injury during the Clippers’ preseason opener against the Golden State Warriors in Hawaii on 4 October. According to ESPN, he was hurt without contact roughly five minutes into the game, struggling to put weight on his right foot after cutting across the lane to receive a pass.

Coach Ty Lue called a timeout, and Strus left for the locker room. Testing after the team returned to Los Angeles identified the partial tear.

NBC Sports’ account of the game also described a non-contact right-foot injury and an exit after five minutes. Sportsnet subsequently carried the diagnosis and four-week timetable, attributing those details to Charania’s reporting.

The injury interrupts more than Strus’ game availability. It also costs him preseason time to establish his place in the Clippers’ combinations. He started against Golden State, but one exhibition start does not establish what his regular-season role or minutes would have been.

Four weeks is a checkpoint, not a return date

The distinction in the reporting matters: Strus is due for another assessment in four weeks, not necessarily clearance to play.

Counting four weeks from the 5 October report puts that checkpoint in early November. With the Clippers opening their season on 21 October, the reported schedule points to an absence at the start of the campaign. The number of games he will ultimately miss remains unknown.

There is no definite return date in ESPN’s report. Nor does the timetable establish when Strus will resume full practice or whether he will face restrictions once available. Those questions require further updates rather than a projected comeback based solely on the calendar.

Fantasy impact: downgrade availability, wait on the rotation

For fantasy managers, the immediate adjustment is to Strus’ early-season availability. He should not be drafted or retained on the assumption that he can contribute from opening night.

An injured-list slot can make a stash easier to accommodate, particularly in deeper leagues. Without one, managers must weigh the cost of using a bench spot on a player whose return remains unsettled.

The Clippers’ wing minutes are worth monitoring, but this report alone does not identify a replacement or establish a reliable waiver-wire target. Any opportunity depends on how Lue reshapes the rotation and whether those minutes become a consistent role.

The actionable news is Strus’ absence. The fantasy beneficiary, if one emerges, still needs to be demonstrated.
