EuroLeague Round 5 Injury Watch: Williams-Goss Out, Crvena Zvezda Without Centres

Žalgiris will be without Nigel Williams-Goss, while Crvena Zvezda face ASVEL with neither of their recognised centres available. Barcelona also lose Justin Minaya and Yoan Makoundou, and Efes adjust to Mike James’ long-term absence. The verified Round 5 fantasy selection picture.

EuroLeague Round 5 opens with several important availability questions, but not all of them are equally uncertain. Žalgiris guard Nigel Williams-Goss and Barcelona wing Justin Minaya have been ruled out of their Tuesday fixtures. Crvena Zvezda must face ASVEL without a recognised centre, while Anadolu Efes are planning without Mike James following Achilles surgery. For fantasy managers, the distinction between a confirmed absence and a player who merely missed the previous round is the starting point for every decision.

Availability check: 13 October 2026, 6am Adelaide time (12 October in Europe). Team lists and medical updates can change before tip-off. This is a pre-game assessment, not a claim that every club has lodged its final Round 5 squad.

Žalgiris: Williams-Goss misses Fenerbahçe, but the replacement role is not settled

Žalgiris confirmed a hamstring injury after Williams-Goss was hurt late in the club's opening EuroLeague win over Crvena Zvezda. The original club assessment described an absence of approximately two weeks and made clear that medical staff would continue monitoring his recovery. He scored 14 points and handed out six assists in 25 minutes in that opener, according to the club.

The 12 October Round 5 availability report, citing club confirmation, says Williams-Goss did not travel for Tuesday's game at Fenerbahçe and is out. Centre Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu also did not travel and is unavailable for that fixture; the reporting does not establish that his absence is caused by a new injury. Those are selection facts, not invitations to invent a replacement starter.

Saben Lee made his Žalgiris EuroLeague debut in Round 4 after missing the first three rounds. His return gives the backcourt another option, but a debut does not tell us how the coaching staff will divide possessions and minutes without Williams-Goss. Fantasy call: bench Williams-Goss for the Fenerbahçe game, monitor Lee's actual role, and avoid treating any single teammate as the automatic beneficiary of the missing assists.

Barcelona: Minaya and Makoundou remain unavailable against Maccabi

Barcelona's 8 October club update identified a right-thigh adductor muscle injury for Justin Minaya, with an estimated recovery period of ten days. It also said Yoan Makoundou was continuing his rehabilitation. Those were estimates and medical descriptions, not guaranteed return dates.

The latest Round 5 report says Barcelona have confirmed both Minaya and Makoundou will miss Tuesday's home game against Maccabi. The club's schedule also places Olympiacos at the Palau on Friday, 16 October, but their Tuesday absences alone do not establish availability for that later fixture. Another update will be required before making a Round 6 call.

Barcelona's earlier statement said Josh Nebo and Tosan Evbuomwan had resumed group training and were subject to late decisions for the previous match; the Round 5 report records that both subsequently debuted in Round 4. That provides more frontcourt options, but it does not establish a fixed minutes allocation. Fantasy call: Minaya and Makoundou should not be active selections for the Maccabi game. Evaluate Nebo and Evbuomwan on demonstrated playing time, rather than assuming an immediate full workload after their returns.

Crvena Zvezda: Izundu joins Motley on the sidelines, leaving no recognised centre

Crvena Zvezda's official 12 October travel update confirms Ebuka Izundu will not travel to Lyon and will miss Tuesday's game against ASVEL. The centre injured his ankle against Budućnost and underwent an MRI. Coach Ibon Navarro said the club was monitoring him closely and hoped he might be available for the following fixture; that hope is not a medical clearance or a confirmed return date.

With Johnathan Motley also sidelined, Navarro said the team would have to play without a conventional centre. Stefan Miljenović will not travel because of a minor ankle problem, while Vojin Medarević is also staying behind. The club's report of the Budućnost game confirms Izundu exited early in the second quarter and did not return. This is a documented new loss, not an assumption drawn from an earlier team sheet.

Fantasy call: Izundu and Motley should not be selected for the ASVEL fixture. A smaller frontcourt may create opportunities for available forwards such as Dejan Davidovac, Semi Ojeleye or Jordan Nwora, but no replacement starter, minutes allocation or usage spike has been confirmed. Monitor the final team sheet and actual rotations. Friday's next game against Paris requires a fresh Izundu assessment rather than carrying Tuesday's exclusion forward automatically.

Efes: James' surgery changes the backcourt, not the certainty of anyone else's minutes

Anadolu Efes announced on 3 October that Mike James underwent Achilles tendon repair surgery following his injury against Crvena Zvezda. The club's statement confirms the operation; it does not provide a firm return date. Treating a speculative rehabilitation window as an official clearance schedule would be misleading.

On the same date, Efes confirmed Cameron Payne's signing through the end of the 2026–27 season. The Round 5 availability report records Payne's EuroLeague debut in Round 4. Efes now host Bayern Munich on Wednesday before travelling to Žalgiris on Friday. The immediate question is how Payne, Jordan Loyd and the other available guards share initiation and shot creation without James — not whether Payne inherits James' former fantasy output in full.

Fantasy call: James is not an active option while recovering from surgery. Payne is a legitimate role-monitoring candidate, particularly in deeper draft formats, but his contract and debut alone do not prove a high-usage role. Wait for reliable minutes, ball-handling and line-up evidence before escalating him into an automatic starter.

The important unknowns before Round 5 lockout

Several other names appear in injury round-ups because they missed Round 4, including Panathinaikos players Kendrick Nunn, Kostas Sloukas and Juancho Hernangómez. Crucially, the 12 October availability report says Panathinaikos had not yet submitted a Round 5 injury report at the time of publication. Their previous absences must not be recast as confirmed Tuesday exclusions.

That uncertainty matters more in a compressed European week. A player who is doubtful on Tuesday could still have a different status for the following fixture; equally, being listed for one match is not a guarantee of unrestricted minutes. Check the official EuroLeague Round 5 injury page and final club announcements close to lockout, and separate confirmed availability from inference.

Buckets verdict: Williams-Goss, Minaya and Makoundou are confirmed out for their respective Tuesday games; Izundu and Motley are unavailable against ASVEL, and James remains sidelined following surgery. Lee, Nebo, Evbuomwan and Payne deserve monitoring because of changing rotations, not because extra fantasy production has already been proved. For Buckets EuroLeague fantasy, verified team selection comes first, actual minutes second, and speculative role gains a distant third.
